Will my degree say distance learning?
No, this is the same degree that students on campus receive. There is no mention of distance learning or extended education on the degree or your transcipts.
Do I ever have to come to the Dominguez Hills campus?
No, you can take all of the upper-divsion courses necessary to complete the 120 units required for the degree without ever coming to the campus.
Do I have to be admitted to begin taking courses?
Students may enroll and complete up to 24 units before they are formally admitted to the university (see pg. 47 of current catalogue http://www.csudh.edu/academicaffairs/StudentInformation/UniversityCatalog.html).
Are students in this program eligible for Financial Aid?
Yes but not until they have applied and been accepted to the university. APS distance learning students are eligible for the same financial aid as on campus students with one exception. Distance learning students are not eligible for State University Grants.
Do I need an AA or AS degree to be accepted into this program?
No. Students need to have earned a minimum of 60 lower division units and fulfilled the lower division general education requirements.
How many units can I transfer into the Applied Studies program?
Students can transfer a maximum of 70 lower division units from a community college. Students can also transfer upper division units earned at a 4 year college or university if the courses meet the requirements of the Applied Studies Program. Students will receive an evaluation of their courses when they are accepted into the program.
What can I do if I have not completed all of the lower division requirements?
You can take courses at your local community college. If that is not possible, many community colleges offer online courses. The best resource for finding community college online courses is the website www.cvc.edu.
How many units must I complete at CSU Dominguez Hills?
To earn a bachelors degree from CSU Dominguez Hills students must complete a minimum of 30 units as a matriculated student at the university (at least 24 upper division units). What is the total cost of the program?
The cost for a course broadcast on TV and webcast on the Internet is $230 per unit or $690 per course. The cost for a course broadcast taught entirely online is $200 per unit or $600 per course. The cost for applying to the university is $55. The cost of the books for each course varies.
How are exams given?
Exams are conducted online using the Blackboard Learning Management System. In some cases, students may be asked to find a proctor who will monitor the exam for the university.
Does it matter what kind of computer I use?
You can use a PC or a Mac. You should have at least 512 Megs of RAM. The PC should be at least a Pentium 4 and the Mac should be at least a G4.
