APS Distance Learning ProgramStudents who transfer the maximum number of units from their community college (70 units) will need 50 units to earn a fully accredited bachelor’s degree (See Catalog). The Applied Studies Distance Learning Program offers students an opportunity to earn 54 units without ever coming to the campus. A total of sixteen courses (48 units) will be broadcast on cable television and webcast on the Internet (PC or Mac). At least two courses (6 units) will be offered online and may or may not include any cable television/Internet broadcasts. Classes are broadcast/webcast live on Tuesdays 7-9 PM, Saturdays 12:00pm-1:40pm /1:50pm-3:30pm and Sundays 12:00pm-2:00 pm. Four courses (12 units) will be broadcast / webcast each trimester (13 weeks); Twelve courses (36 units) will be broadcast/webcast each year. The two primarily online courses (6 units) which may or may not included live broadcasts will be offered once each year. Each class is broadcast/webcast live. Cable television viewers have a toll free number they can call and speak with the instructor during the broadcast. Internet viewers are able to email their questions and comments to a screen on the instructor’s desk during the webcast. In addition to the live broadcast/webcasts, classes are archived on a video server. Students can access the archived video files and view the classes at a later time. Each course has a Blackboard website. Students have a username and password that allows them to access the course website for the syllabus, additional instructional activities, assignments, discussion boards, communication with their instructor and other students, and their grades. |
